The ability to import data into Flow is one of the more recent updates we’ve made and following user feedback we’ve improved this mechanism so that any records in your MS Excel spreadsheet can be assigned to a specific tree node during upload.
What do we mean by tree node?
A tree structure is an easily understood way of representing the hierarchical nature of your data. It resembles an upside-down tree, with the “root” at the top and the “branches” dropping off it. In the example below you can see the parent tree-node or root is “All” with different areas underneath, the “Maintenance Workshop” tree-node having it’s own branches.
To assign a record in MS Excel to a specific tree-node you will need to add a new column to your MS Excel spreadsheet and prefix an existing row in the column with ‘All\’, e.g., if you had a plant area of ‘Plant A’, you would prefix it with ‘All\Plant A’ , ‘All\Plant B’, etc. Your tree structure in Flow to should map to your spreadsheet before you begin the data import.
Then you’re ready to import. All the data from the spreadsheet will be put into the right place in the tree structure and your’re ready to use the app.
